Blog #6 - End of Semester Reflections!

Image
End of Semester Reflections:) HEY AGAIN FRIENDS!  - for the very last time:(  Throughout my five week practicum within grade 4, I had several opportunities to meaningfully integrate AI into my planning and teaching. The main tools I used were ChatGPT and Magic School, particularly for lesson planning, generating activity ideas, and creating assessment tools like rubrics, checklists, and self-assessments. AI became a valuable part of my professional workflow especially during weeks when time was limited and I was juggling multiple subject areas or prepping for other things going on with the school. Which is something my mentor teacher encouraged, especially during times like those to make things easier rather than adding on more stress! One of the biggest ways AI supported my practicum was by helping me brainstorm engaging activities and games to make my lessons more interactive. It also helped me think through differentiation, especially for students who needed extra sca...

Blog #5 - Robotics in Action!

Robotics in Action : Coding with Haiku's Hey friends!! This is a group integrated lesson I created with my constructive besties:) Robotics in Action Lesson! In the future, I would love to use our BOLT+ Haiku lesson or a similar robotics based activities within my own classroom to create meaningful cross-curricular learning experiences that students will remember forever. Integrating robotics into subjects like Language Arts allows students to see technology as more than just a tool, it becomes a creative outlet for expression and problem-solving. I think lessons like this help students make deeper connections between coding, communication, and creativity, while building confidence as they share their work with others, and students get to have fun while learning. I also see robotics as an engaging way to support collaboration and inclusivity where all students of all skill levels can contribute ideas, experiment, and celebrate their successes together. Using technology in this way e...

Blog #4 - Coding for Kids with Scratch!

Data in Motion: Coding with Scratch! Grade 4 / Math and digital technology Link to lesson plan :) In my future teaching practice, I would definitely use this Scratch lesson because it helps students learn how to collect, organize, and present data in a fun and meaningful way. It connects perfectly to the Alberta outcomes about manipulating and presenting data, but it goes beyond math and it gives students a chance to be creative, collaborate, and build real digital skills.  I really like that this lesson lets students explore while learning. Instead of just filling in charts or using paper graphs, they actually get to make their own projects in Scratch that show data come to life. This makes learning so much more engaging and memorable. I’d use this kind of lesson to show students that coding isn’t just about computers, it’s about problem-solving, communication, and finding new ways to share ideas.  I also think it’s a great example of how technology can support all learners....

Blog #3 - Digital Story!

DIGITAL STORYTELLING - TSUUNT'INA NATION! My digital story explores the incredible Tsuut’ina Nation, a Dene-speaking community located just southwest of Calgary. In my video, I talk about the Nation’s history with Treaty No. 7 and their ongoing sovereignty, the origins and importance of the Tsuut’ina language, and their traditional separation story that connects them to other Dene peoples. I also share a few beautiful Tsuut’ina words from the natural world and reflect on how learning about their culture, resilience, and language revitalization has inspired me as a future teacher to create a classroom that values storytelling, language, and connection to the land. I also explain what I have taken from this learning experience and how I will use these teachings within my future practice as an educator! Here is the link to my digital sto...

Blog #2 - Creation App Mini Lesson!

Shape Detectives - Identifying Different Shapes! Grade 1 Mathematics Link to Lesson Plan Link to Moose Math App HEY FRIENDS:)  Teaching our Shape Detectives lesson reminded me of how powerful it can be to make math hands-on, playful, and connected to the real world. Working with my group, I saw how collaboration and creativity can turn a simple concept like identifying shapes, into something more engaging and memorable for students. What stood out to me most is how easily students can build understanding when they are encouraged to see shapes not just on a worksheet, but in the world around them! Moving forward, I see great potential in using digital tools like the Moose Math App to help advance student learning and engagement. The Lost and Found game within this app is a perfect way for students to practice shape recognition in a fun, interactive way that feels like play but also reinforces the key concepts at hand. I imagine using the app as an interactive station in math centers...

Blog #1 - Beginning of the Fall 2025 Semester!

My previous experience with AI applications and how I have used them: HEY FRIENDS:)  When I think back to my own experiences with AI applications, I remember how scared I was to use it at first. The conversations that always circled around using any form of AI were usually that these tools were being used for students to "cheat", and because of the way it was perceived at the time, I was always very hesitant to use it. But then, as the conversations started to shift more towards AI being a good tool that could help with understanding within our studies, I started to play around with it a little more and I'm really glad that I did! AI tools like Photo Math and ChatGPT, has helped me to breakdown concepts for better understanding within various areas of my learning when I don't fully understand something. As well as for brainstorming ideas and creating outlines to help me have an idea on where to start for projects. Especially when I feel stuck. I don't see these to...
